Hands-on Oni-Kawara Crafting (Ornamental Traditional Tiles)

Join Shizuoka’s only female oni-kawara artisan for a hands-on workshop where you’ll create your very own demon-faced roof tile, inspired by your imagination. While crafting, you’ll also learn about the history and traditional techniques of Shimizu roof tiles. Your finished tile will be fired after the workshop and sent to you by mail, so you can treasure your unique creation at home. No prior experience is necessary, making this a perfect activity for beginners.
Inclusions
- Complete oni-gawara workshop kit, including clay, tools, and instruction.
- Firing and shipping of your finished creation.
After firing, your completed tile will be shipped to the address you provide.

- Transportation to the venue.
- Additional shipping fees for international delivery.
What to Bring
- Wear or bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty (you’ll be working with clay).
- A towel (for wiping your hands).
- A drink (to stay hydrated).
Notes
- The workshop takes place indoors, but room temperature may vary depending on the season and weather, so please wear clothing that allows you to adjust your body temperature. Please avoid wearing clothes or accessories that you’re worried might get wet or dirty.
- Your creation will be fired and shipped to you afterward. Please note that it may take a few weeks to arrive.
- For your safety, please follow all instructions given by the staff.
- Please make reservations at least 4 business days in advance, not including weekends or public holidays.
- Payment is required in advance via PayPal.
- Late arrivals of more than 15 minutes may be denied entry, and no refunds will be issued for late arrivals or no-shows.
