What is Chado
Chadō, often called the Japanese Tea Ceremony in English, is more than just making tea.
It is a traditional Japanese art and practice that helps people train their mind and spirit.
What may appear to be simple, everyday actions—preparing, serving, and sharing a bowl of matcha—are in fact rich with over four centuries of accumulated wisdom, culture, and philosophy. Every movement, utensil, and surrounding element is imbued with meaning, shaped by generations of thought and tradition. The lasting appeal of the Way of Tea, perfected by Sen Rikyu in the 1500s, shows how deeply this “Art of Living” continues to matter to people across generations.
Highlight
- Through the Way of Tea (Chado), participants explore the core principles of Harmony, Respect, Purity, and Tranquility.
- In this experience, you will observe a tea master preparing matcha with graceful movements and care. You will also have the opportunity to make your own bowl of matcha and enjoy it together with a traditional Japanese sweet.
- By engaging in both observation and hands-on practice, you will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of this centuries-old art.
